MG Comet EV – small size electric car with high tec features

MG Comet EV : Electric vehicles are no more a distant dream in India — they are gradually becoming a part of our lives.

MG Motor India has pushed that envelope with the arrival of the MG Comet EV, a small ultramodern electric car made for living in the city.

The Comet, with its sci-fi look, compact dimensions and 100% electric drive system, is designed to challenge perceptions of urban mobility.

It won’t be for everyone, but the Comet undoubtedly appeals to a micro demographic who prioritise environmental friendliness, ease of driving, and a tech-savvy driving experience in their car, over what we traditionally consider car features.

Design: Small Size, Big Style

You only have to glance MG’s Comet EV to realise it is no ordinary hatchback. The Comet is boxy in shape, with a high centre and details that are altogether futuristic.

Coupled with the slim DRLs, minimalist bumpers and a full-length LED light bar across the front, it exudes an incredibly modern, almost concept-car vibe.

It is only 2.9 meters long (shorter than the Alto, even, though tall and wide enough to accommodate a somewhat decent cabin space).

The two-door style is part of what makes this car special, and the tiny turning circle and short overhangs mean it’s a fantastic weapon through a crowded city.

Interior and Tech Features

The MG Comet EV’s cabin, while small, is open and tech-focused.

It provides seating for four occupants and is furnished with a sparse dashboard, punctuated by two 10.25-inch displays—one for infotainment and another for the digital instrument cluster.

Highlights include:

OEM Integrated Car Play and Android Auto

i-SMART app for connected car features

Intelligent key with remote controls

Power windows, digital controls, backgrounds(choices of apperance )

Mounted controls and voice activation for certain controls

The use of space is clever. Stowage pockets, cubby holes and a flat floor mean it’s not as claustrophobic as you’d think from the outside.

The rear seats are more for kids or shorter adults, especially on city jaunts.

Performance and Range

The Comet EV employs a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 42 PS electric motor that powers the rear wheels.

It’s not going to win any races, but it’s definitely fast enough for city dashes and neighborhood commutes. They’re capped at a top speed of 100 km/h, which is fine for City travel.

MG has an ARAI-certified range of 230 km, but expect real-world figure between 160–180 km depending on traffic and driving style.

It also charges in full, through a regular 3.3kW wall charger you get with it, in around 7 hours.

Ride and Handling

The MG Comet EV is very easy to drive thanks to its light steering, instant torque and small size.

It’s a hoot on tight streets and crowded parking lots. The suspension is calibrated for the city, and low-speed comfort is very good, although don’t expect the same planted feel you will get from rival scooters out on the highway or at higher speeds.

The braking is also progressive, and energy is recouped making for an added efficiency.

But you will sense road blemishes — thanks to the small wheels and the short wheelbase.
